Of course the deflected sunray can be guided into a room at ground level and at right angles with the window pane. In this case the furniture and objects which are in the light beam will absorb the light and will diffuse it according to the character of their surface. Or the wall at the back of the room will be the light diffuser.

Mostly one tries to illuminate the ceiling of the living room (the light beam coming from an angle below). Or – from the side – at one of the side walls – depending on the local conditions (see short video film).

Depending on the character of the floor it may also be used as a reflector. This application will require a light beam which comes from "an above angle" and thus corresponds to the natural ray flow of the sun. One tends to forget that the light comes into the house via a mirror.

To experience this sensation and feeling already in the phase of your taking interest and planning we recommend – on a beautiful sunny day – to guide the sun, directed by hand and with a household mirror, out of your garden into the house. One person guides – the other feels, looks at it and will be enthusiastic. Also try to use a stepladder to do this (light coming from an above angle)!

You will be surprised, which large quantity of light – already using a small mirror – will be flooding your house. When you want to do this very thoroughly, you should repeat the procedure in the morning, at noon and in the afternoon. Making this effort, you will not only gain an impression from the effect of the light beam, but it will also tell you something about the most appropriate position of the heliostat.

Of course you can "enlighten" further aspects of the utilisation of a heliostat. But this would go beyond the scope of this informational page. Therefore we kindly request you – if you want to pursue the matter – to contact our engineer Mr. Dieter Meixner. He will try to answer your questions.
